programme philosophy

Right to Dream is preparing an elite squad of 4 Ghanaian para-athletes in the lead up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Working with local sporting bodies, including Ghana Society for the Physically Disabled and the National Paralympic Committee, we have developed a programme to support their training, provide equipment and secure their entry into international competitions.

Qualifying for London is not the end of the atheletes mission however; they are determined to use this opportunity and platform to change the perception of disability in Ghana` from a negative to a positive one.

If successful at the games, the new role models will help inspire and engage with disabled children across Ghana, and promote the Right to Dream Paralympic Academy programme to attract the first generation of future young Paralympian talent.

Throughout the continent people with disabilities battle misconceptions and struggle for equality. Para-athletes across Africa face a constant challenge to secure funding, equipment, training facilities and coaching hindering their efforts to compete at an international level, despite their talent.

The 4 athletes have already demonstrated their ability and our hope is that this Paralympic Programme will enable them to fulfill their potential.  Follow links to meet Raphael, Anita, Alem and Charles.

Leading up to London 2012, you can help ensure these 4 athletes receive the best possible preparation ahead of the Paralympic Games by helping fund the programme. Please contact susie.daniell@righttodream.com if you would like to contribute to this programme or visit our justgiving page for one off donations.

Our sincere thanks to all those helping us to make this vision a reality. This programme is kindly supported in Ghana by Hull Blyth, Aviance, Pippa's GymPHC Motors and PSSquared. In addition, the team are receiving expert technical advice from Exercise Science Consulting.
