U15s earn their place in the MUPC Africa Finals
April 2011
Hosted in Old Akrade at the purpose built facility of the Right to Dream Academy in partnership with Vodafone Ghana, the Premier Cup host team has triumphed once more in battle with Shadow Academy & Okwenya Young Stars making it their 4th national victory. Both from the Eastern Region and both determined, the match has been very competitive, each side doing its outmost to secure the one spot available for Ghana to be represented at the Africa finals that will take place in Hilversum, The Netherlands this coming May.
The tournament started early in the morning with Right to Dream finding no difficulty beating Okwenya young stars 3 to 0. But that was only the start of an undefeated path for the team who continued storming through the competition winning 4-1 against Strong Tower FC. Only when faced by Shadow Academy did Right to Dream Academy feel finally challenged. Right to Dream Captain, Sirdick admitted confident of his teammates. “Despite being 1-0 down, we remained determined and managed to draw the game. We have a lot to improve on before going to Holland and will work hard in training. It was a great day and we enjoyed hosting the teams”.
Emmanuel Quartey, Head Coach of Shadow Academy admitted it was a challenge, but that his team still delivered."The boys performed very well in a tough tournament, and did well to win 1 match and draw 2 matches. We missed a few chances during the tournament, which we were disappointed about, especially in the first game. But overall, we are happy with the boys' performance, and we wish Right to Dream all the best to represent Ghana in the African Finals in Holland."
It was still evident that a lot of the players were applying their best tricks to win the title, whether it was Prosper's hat trick for Strong Tower versus Okwenya Young Stars or Right to Dream's Evans' 30-yard thunderbolt strike off the post against Strong Tower FC. "Overall the competition was very competitive and we were happy to see that our players rose to the occasion. Despite the matches not being easy, they still produced some good performances throughout the day. There is now a lot of work to be done in preparation for the African Finals, which is our big challenge. The players need to remain focused and ready to accept this challenge", said the Technical Director at Right to Dream, proud of hosting such an event.
