RtD boys demonstrate their expertise at the Egg and Spoon Race!
April 2011
OLD AKRADI, 21 April 2011
Yesterday marked a significant moment for the students at the Right to Dream Academy, in partnership with Vodafone Ghana, as they competed in the Academy’s inaugural Sports’ Day. Despite the blazing sunshine and end of term exhaustion, the boys were in high spirits and full of energy as the dormitories battled for victory.
The dormitories contested against each other in traditional sports’ day games which included the ever amusing three legged race, the energetic sack race, the loved egg and spoon race and the all determining 100m dash. The boys also partook in team games and were challenged to work together to unravel themselves from the ‘human knot’ and to move 50m using two benches without touching the ground. Points remained close throughout the events but the Powers Dorm finally pipped the Ike Dorm to the post, winning by 5 points.
Throughout the term, the students have been researching into how different sports help children across the world. During the afternoon the boys formally presented their project work which included a game of blind football, demonstrations of Brazilian wrestling and the New Zealand Haka, and the Spanish National Anthem delivered in Spanish.
‘The day’s events were enjoyed by all and were a great way to round off the term. The boys have worked hard in their football and academic work and certainly deserved their day of fun’ said James Meller, COO. ‘Congratulations to all for another successful term’ he added.
