A Second King for Norway
March 2011
Old Akradi, 18 March 2011
Right to Dream (RtD) graduates make their mark on Norwegian football as Razak Nuhu goes on loan to Stromsgodset IF and King Osei Gyan signs with Viking FK in time for the start of the Norwegian Tippeligaen season.
Razak Nuhu joins his RtD teammate Mohammed Abu to play for the Drammen-based club. The powerful, attacking left-back joined the Right to Dream Academy in partnership with Vodafone Ghana, in April 2004 from colts team Liberty Babies in Tamale. His impressive ability on his left foot combined with his skill to maximize both attacking and defensive situations illustrated clear talent from a young age. During his time at the RtD, Razak has spent time training with Manchester United, Everton FC and Fulham FC, and more recently has had prolonged trials with Manchester City. Razak suffered a knee injury in 2009, which kept him out of the game for a year, but he came through his rehabilitation with flying colours to rediscover his form and secure his loan move to Stromsgodset.
Academy Manager, Andy Farrant, commented ‘Everyone at Right to Dream is delighted for Razak and wish him and Stromsgodset the best of luck for the new season. This opportunity is a just reward for the hard work Razak put in during the long months of his rehabilitation after his operation and the positive attitude he has maintained throughout’. Razak's first game will be on Sunday 20th March, when Stromsgodset host Sogndal in their season opener.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, King Osei Gyan signed on a free transfer after his contract with Fulham FC and loan contract at Germinal Beerschot Antewerpen ended last July. After graduation from the Academy in 2004, King attended Dunn School in California to continue his academic studies whilst continuing with his football. His talent has been recognised globally having been selected to play for the NSCAA / adidas High-School All-America Team in 2005, having signed a contract with Fulham FC in January 2007 and having been capped by Ghana once at senior international level.
"It is fantastic to see three of our graduates now playing professionally in Norway. We are all looking forward to following their progress this season and feel confident that they will be valuable additions to the Norwegian teams,” said Right to Dream's Head Scout, Joe Mulberry.
