February Round Up
March 2011
OLD AKRADI, MARCH 2011
February was as busy as ever at the Right to Dream (RtD) Academy in partnership with Vodafone Ghana and the term continues to operate at full speed across all departments.
Students delivered awareness messages to mark World Cancer Day and also partook in International Mother Language Day by presenting their weekly assembly in Twi. RtD’s Head of English commented “Whilst it is important that we improve the students’ confidence and ability in English it is fundamental that we also encourage a sense of pride in their mother language”.
Two sport and development keen adventurers spent a few days at the Academy having been inspired by hearing about the programme and were enthusiastic to visit and volunteer their time. Tom and Carl shared their experiences of travelling the length of Africa with the students which sparked some interesting questions about the differences in cultures.
Meanwhile in football, seven RtD students are currently on a six week long training visit to the UK, to train with various squads. The trip has included a week-long trip to Abu Dhabi where they were joined by RtD graduate and England Schoolboy International, Thomas Boakye, to play two friendly matches against local academy teams. In America, RtD graduate Michael Tetteh, demonstrated his value to his new team by scoring his first goal for Sounders FC to equalise the game against Dynamo.
The beginning of March commenced with five more students being offered scholarships to the Academy, having successfully completed their trial period across all departments. The event’s importance was marked by Vodafone’s CEO, Kyle Whitehill, presenting the scholarships and a team of Vodafone staff in attendance for the ceremony.

NOTE TO EDITORS
Last year the Right to Dream Academy signed a three-year partnership agreement with Vodafone Ghana, enabling RtD to continue to deliver world class coaching and a specialised programme of personal development, education and leadership skills to some of the brightest but underprivileged young football prospects in Ghana.
To date, five RtD graduates have signed professional contracts for professional clubs and a further 23 continue their studies whilst furthering their football ambitions on full scholarships at leading universities, private boarding schools and colleges in the US and the UK. Other RtD graduates follow our vocational programme and train within the football industry to become experts in this industry.
