Abu called up by the Black Stars
September 2011
The Right to Dream Academy, in partnership with Vodafone Ghana, is delighted to report that graduate, Mohammed Abu, has recently been called up by the Black Star coach Goran Stevanovic to play for the Ghanaian National Team against Sudan in
Omdurman and Nigeria in London.
Abu is currently on loan from Manchester City to Norwegian side Stromsgodset where he has showed impressive skill in the Norwegian Premier League. Having previously missed an opportunity to play for Ghana in London, where the game was called off due to the London riots, Abu now has a chance to make his debut for his national team.
“With the good players Ghana has who are doing well in Europe, I hope I get to play to show the world the sort of quality I am made of. I know it’s a crucial game and I have been playing regularly for my club which means I will be ready for the match”, he commented.
With Ghana needing to win the qualifier against Sudan in Omdurman to earn qualification to the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, Abu said: “I hope I can do to well to help the country qualify. This game is very important for the country and so my biggest target is to help my nation.”
Abu joined Right to Dream in 2004 from the Brong Ahafo region and performed well throughout his time at the Academy. He impressed his staff with his determination to succeed in life, his hard working attitude and extrovert nature. Abu graduated from the Academy in 2010 and is the first of our graduates to win any European silverware.
Technical Director of Right to Dream, Gareth Henderby, commented: “Abu has shown character his whole life. Since making the transition from academy to senior football he has continued to show his exceptional character and his determination to make it in life. He fully deserves his call up as his performances for Stromsgodset have been extremely good. Abu has played in the Europa cup this season against top opposition and came through the games with glowing reports. This is the next step in his career progression and we are fully behind him here at Right to Dream in Ghana.”
